The black plastic Mk5 rifle oil bottle was brought in during WWII to replace the heavy and expensive MkIV brass bottles.

These bottles were not only used with the Lee Enfield rifle but also saw service to carry mineral oil in the Bren gun spare barrel bag and as part of the SLR cleaning kit after the war until the 1990s.
